What hardware should you keep in your garage?

Start with the thread systems and general-purpose sizes you repeatedly use. Stocking every size is expensive; buying only one standard assortment may leave gaps when you work across different equipment.

Metric, SAE or both?

Metric fasteners use millimeter diameters and thread pitches, such as M8 × 1.25. Inch fasteners use a diameter and threads per inch, such as 5/16-18. They are not interchangeable. Identify the original hardware rather than assuming a system from a vehicle’s country of origin. Choose one system if that covers your work, or both for a mixed garage.

Quantity is different from coverage

A large piece count can mean many washers or repeated quantities in a few sizes. Check the distinct diameters, thread pitches, bolt lengths, nut styles and matching washers. Our builder shows those lines separately and changes stocking quantities with your preferences. Similar work areas share stock rather than adding duplicates.

When does a standard assortment make more sense?

If you need one family and like its fixed contents, a stocked assortment with a box may be better value. A customized order is more useful when you need several supply families together, want to omit groups you own and would otherwise select multiple purchases.

How much should you stock?

Choose focused quantities for occasional work or limited storage. Working stock gives more depth in the same selected sizes. Deeper stock increases quantities; it does not promise that every future repair is covered. Review your existing supplies before buying again.

Keep the specification with the hardware

Separate sizes and label the thread and length. Our hardware arrives in type-labeled bags for your existing storage. Electrical rolls and packs retain their original labels so their specifications remain available. Organizers are currently not offered.

Where general shop stock stops

Fasteners with the same dimensions can differ in strength, material, finish and head geometry. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s instructions, especially for brakes, steering, suspension, lifting and other safety-sensitive applications. Do not select a replacement solely because it screws into the hole.
